The World Championships take place in Düsseldorf (Germany), the capital city of North-Rhine Westphalia, a federal state of the Federal Republic of Germany and the city of Ratingen.

Düsseldorf is a city with historic athletic achievement. Düsseldorf hosted the Ice-Hockey World Championships in 1975 and 1983 respectively, the European icehockey championships for clubs in 1996, Soccer World Cup games in 1974 and Soccer European Championships games in 1988, and the annually World Team Cup in Tennis.
